GLOSSARY
Abysswalker: A high weaver of Fel’srus.
Adros: Vast coalition of free cities occupying the bottom half of the Eastern Bend of the Ring. Climates include desert, grassland, and jungle.
Aegis: Appointed guardian of an imperial House. In the case of House Astaris, the Aegis is the paramount guardian of the entire empire.
Al’Sanah: One of the two dominating nations of the Southern Bend of the Ring.
Anchor: Appointed intellectual of an imperial House. In the case of House Astaris, the Anchor is the paramount intellectual of the entire empire.
Ardentium: Highly valuable green ore with an innate ability to deaden sorcery.
Ars’ana: The Hollow of light. Also called Lumira’s Rise.
Astaris Empire: The largest empire on the Ring of the World, dominating the Eastern Bend.
The Awakened: Alumni of the Great Library. The greatest minds of the Ring of the World, learned in every academic discipline.
Billowblack: Ferociously powerful storms that spawn within the Ring.
Bramblehorn: A majestic variety of elk with substantial and intricate intertwining antlers.
Carros: Brawny, boar-like beasts with four tusks and two horns. They are typically as large as a carriage.
The Cataclysm: The event that ruined the world.
Crosis: Flower that produces a deadening extract. Also called the duskflower.
Crowns: Imperial currency, separated into gold, silver, and copper pieces.
Daru: The god of wind.
Daru’s Silence: Autumn in the pantheonic calendar.
Daybreak: Small Island off the coast of Stormwall. Its denizens (called Daybreakers) have harried the Stormlands for millenia.
Deepwraith: Unique variety of wraith taking physical form and dwelling in the deep oceans.
Dragonforged: Goods forged from metals that have been melted down by dragonfire. The highest form of forging.
Dun’um: The Hollow of war. Also called Tarkanos’s Hall.
Dusken Riders: An order of monster hunters within the Astaris Empire.
Earthbreaker: A high weaver of Ter’ash.
Eight Towers: The largest city on the Eastern Bend of the Ring and the capital of Vesya.
Ekchella: Massive bats native to the Souther Bend of the Ring.
Everward: An object imbued permanently with tremendous magic to ward off dangers.
Fel’srus: The Hollow of Death. Also called Pale’s Abyss.
Fillowleaf: A shrub native to the Stormlands that is harvested to make durable and flexible tools and clothing.
Fir’los: The Hollow of flame. Also called Lacaris’s Inferno.
The Five Legions: The five primary armies of the Astaris Empire. Largely considered as the strongest military force spanning the Ring of the World.
Foldemon: Demon that stalks forests.
Gandemon: Demon that lives in mountain caves.
Gildtress Tree: An amber tree of singular beauty spread sparsely across the Ring of the World. Also called everautumns or goldcrowns.
Glademender: A high weaver of Hal’ganal.
Godshard: A priceless living metal that amplifies or deadens sorcery depending on its bearers will.
Gold Council: The leadership of the Astaris Empire, headed by the monarch.
Gorros: Elephant-like beasts with a hard back and four tusks, but no trunk. Unlike their carros cousins, these giants are gentle and similar to horses in temperament.
Great Library: The jewel of Vesya, a campus for the Awakened built upon a plateau overlooking the vast city of Eight Towers.
Hal’ganal: The Hollow of life and vitality. Also called Hella’s Glade.
Healer: Generally refers to a medic employing traditional healing.
Hella: The goddess of life.
Hella’s Harvest: Summer in the pantheonic calendar.
High Weaver: A weaver on a level beyond most of their colleagues.
Honor Guard: An archon’s personal guard. Considered the legion’s finest fighters.
Imposition: The pressure imposed on others when a weaver draws upon their Willpower.
Inringer: Slang term for one who lives near the Ring’s inner coasts.
Jorm: The god of earth.
Jorm’s Wake: Spring in the pantheonic calendar.
Lacaris: Goddess of flame.
Leviathans: Colossal creatures who inhabit the oceans surrounding the Ring.
Loyal Legion: A reserve legion of the Astaris Empire focused on addressing civil conflicts and reinforcing the Five Legions when the need arises.
Lumira: The goddess of light.
Manaforged: Goods forged from metals that have been melted down by sorcery. More effective than traditional forging.
Mender: Generally refers to a medic employing magical healing.
Nihilus: The god of wisdom.
Northreach: Continent north of the Astaris Empire and across the Shattered Isles Strait.
Nos Harbor: Prosperous city-state nestled between the Empire and Adros but bowing to neither. Its artisan goods (wines, cheeses, fabrics, and more) are the Eastern Bend’s finest.
Outringer: Slang term for one who lives near the Ring’s outer coasts.
Pale: The god of death.
Pale’s Breath: Winter in the pantheonic calendar.
The Pale Whisper: A small, ghost-like spider. Merely touching its venom will bring a swift end to even the burliest of warriors.
Par’enzi: The Hollow of shadow. Also called Shallan’s Veil.
Raptor: Giant hawks big enough to bear a rider.
Rashah: The god of water.
Sanessa: Flower from which a strong anaesthetic is extracted. Also called the sunlight bloom.
San’um: The Hollow of wisdom. Also called Nihilus’s Symposium.
Ser’eyn: The Hollow of ice and water. Also called Rashah’s Everclear.
Shadestalker: A high weaver of Par’enzi.
Shallan: The goddess of shadow.
Shen: Shuhei currency.
The Shroud: The assassin wing of the Astaris Empire.
Shuhei: Young but prosperous empire on the Western Bend of the Ring.
The Sickness: A potentially deadly ailment that strikes any weaver who exhausts their Willpower.
Stentite: A vibrant blue ore with sorcery-amplifying properties.
Straikossus: An enormous beast with powerful legs, small arms, and a vast maw of razorsharp teeth.
Tanos: Sanahi and Zahrahi currency.
Tarkanos: The god of war.
Ter’ash: The Hollow of earth and stone. Also called Jorm’s Desolation.
Thronekeepers: An order of eight of the Empire’s finest warriors who are sworn to guarding the throne.
Tortossus: Turtles so immense as to have flora growing on their shells.
Tunsa: Incredibly fast bipedal desert reptiles with long, hooked talons. They are typically large enough to bear two to three riders.
Vesya: Enlightened nation occupying Jorm’s Fist, a peninsula on the Eastern Bend’s inner coast.
Vis’lun: The Hollow of wind and air. Also called Daru’s Tempest.
Vysenti Dancer: Fast and fluid martial sorcerers bearing twin swords.
Vysakar: Slow, heavily-armored weaver-warriors. One of the fiercest foes one can encounter along the Ring.
Ward: A concentration of weavery that will be set off if disturbed.
Weaver: One who accesses a Hollow. A mage or sorcerer.
Wraith: Ethereal and malevolent monster.
The Web: The spy network of the Astaris Empire.
Wickwolf: Crimson-eyed and twice the size of the largest wolf. The scent of blood will light its “wick,” leading to a frighteningly heightened ferocity.
Willpower: The spiritual energy expended by weavers in order to reach the Hollows and control their power.
Zul’Zahrah: One of the two dominating countries of the Southern Bend of the Ring.
